Vineyard tour and wine-tasting in the Kaiserstuhl area
On Thursday, September 11, the technical part of the MIOMD-IX conference will be finished and we will have some time to explore the surrounding area of Freiburg. The destination of the excursion is the town Ihringen located in the famous wine-growing area Kaiserstuhl. Since Ihringen is one of the sunniest and warmest spots within Germany, excellent wines are produced there. The typical climatic conditions in September are comfortable for a stay outside (temperature: approximately 20-25 °C).
After a 20-minute ride on a regional train from Freiburg, we will start with a guided walking tour through the vineyards surrounding Ihringen. The tour will take approximately 2 ½ hours, comfortable shoes will be of advantage. Special hiking equipment is not necessary (maybe an umbrella for the case of rain showers).
The vineyard tour will take us to the winery in Ihringen where we will participate in a guided tour through the cellars introducing the winery facilities and the art of wine production. To recover after these physical and mental efforts, a wine tasting event including a lunch composed of regional specialties will be offered. The wine tasting includes one sparkling wine and several premium wines directly produced at the winery. Of course, non-alcoholic beverages will also be served. The winery tour and the wine tasting event will take 2 ½ hours; then we will return to Freiburg, again by train.
More information on the winery in Ihringen is available at http://www.winzergenossenschaft-ihringen.de
In case of bad weather, the vineyard exploration will be omitted and we will start directly with the wine cellar visit after the arrival in Ihringen. The fee for the excursion amounts to 35 €. It will also be possible for excursion participants to return to Freiburg earlier, requiring a separate train ticket (3.40 €). |
